PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025 Concludes Wong Hong Kit Shines on Home Court Winning Gold and Silver Over 500 Players Write a New Chapter for Hong Kong Pickleball

(Hong Kong, 24 August, 2025) The final day of the “PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025” concluded today at the Kai Tak Arena, Kai Tak Sports Park. Hong Kong local hero Wong Hong Kit clinch gold in Men’s Singles and silver in the Men’s Doubles in a thrilling Sunday of semifinal and finals action, joining over 100 professional players and 400 amateur athletes from 25 countries or regions competing to write a new chapter in Hong Kong’s pickleball evolution.

The day began with the Men’s Doubles semifinals, where Wong Hong Kit partnered with Kim Eunggwon to face the Australian duo George Wall and Joseph Wild. The teams had traded victories in previous encounters. Wong and Kim quickly found their rhythm, taking the first set 11-9. The second set was intensely competitive, with repeated lead changes and an extended deuce battle, ultimately won 13-11 by the Hong Kong-Korean pair, to secure their place in the final.

In the Men’s Singles final, top-seeded Wong Hong Kit faced Malaysia leg champion Giang Trinh of Vietnam. The two had met in the semifinals in Malaysia, but competing on home turf, Wong secured his revenge. After trailing 5-9 in the first set, he rallied to win six consecutive points to take it 11-9. Giang Trinh steadied himself to win the second set 11-4. The deciding set saw dramatic momentum shifts: Wong built a 6-0 lead, only for Giang to respond with a 9-point run. Regaining his composure at the crucial moment, Wong closed out the match 11-9.

In the Men’s Doubles final, Wong Hong Kit and Kim Eunggwon faced the American pair Thomas Yu and Len Yang. After dropping the first set 6-11, they fought back to win the second 11-9. The deciding set was a nail-biting battle, with the American pair eventually prevailing 12-10, leaving Wong and Kim with the silver medal.

Wong Hong Kit therefore concluded his triumphant Hong Kong campaign with one gold and one silver, receiving enthusiastic congratulations from local fans after the matches.

A delighted Wong Hong Kit remarked, “This tournament was incredibly tough. I lost to the same opponent in the Singles semifinal in Malaysia. In the third set today, my lead vanished in an instant, but thanks to everyone’s support, I was able to harness the ‘home-court advantage’ and pull through. I’m thrilled that my family, friends, and coach were here to support me. Thank you to everyone who cheered for me. Winning this event is especially meaningful here in Hong Kong, particularly as it’s the most globally recognized tournament of its kind.”

In the women’s events, the Netherlands’ Roos van Reek dominated, capturing two gold medals. She defeated Hsieh Yu-Chieh of Chinese Taipei in straight games (11-2, 11-3) in the singles final, and teamed up with Wei Ting Chieh of Chinese Taipei to defeat China’s Long Yufei and the USA’s Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall (11-4, 11-3) in the doubles final. Hong Kong’s Wong Hong Yi competed in the Women’s Singles bronze medal match but eventually fell to China’s Long Yufei (10-12, 7-11).
