PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025 Tournament Update Wong Hong Kit Advances to Finals in Dominant Form Wong Hong Yi to Compete in Bronze Medal Match
(Hong Kong, 23 August, 2025) The third day of the “PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025” took place today with the continuing competition hosted the Kai Tak Arena, Kai Tak Sports Park from August 21 to 24. Hong Kong player Wong Hong Kit is in exceptional form, having advanced to both the Men’s Singles final and the Men’s Doubles semifinals. He is now set to compete for the title on home court tomorrow. Meanwhile, Wong Hong Yi suffered a defeat in the Women’s Singles and now must shift her focus to the bronze medal match.
In the Men’s Singles semifinals, top-seeded Wong Hong Kit faced Vietnam’s Hien Truong. Demonstrating dominant form, Wong took control from the start and secured a straight-games victory of 11-2, 11-2, emphatically advancing to the final. The other semifinal featured an all-Vietnamese clash, with Malaysia leg champion Giang Trinh defeating Hoang Nam Ly 11-8, 11-8. Wong Hong Kit now faces Giang Trinh for the gold medal tomorrow.
In the Men’s Doubles, Wong Hong Kit partnered with Kim Eunggwon to progress smoothly through the Round of 16 and quarterfinals, securing a place in the semifinals.
A triumphant Wong Hong Kit shared: “I’m currently in very good match condition and physical shape. Unlike at the Malaysia leg, I didn’t experience any cramping towards the end of my matches. It’s now all to play for in the finals tomorrow, and my goal is definitely to win the title. Our Australian opponents in the men’s doubles semifinals have had close matches with us in the past – I hope we can come out on top this time. Today, I saw many friends and family here cheering me on. Thank you all for your support. Tomorrow, I’ll put on a great performance for everyone.”
In the Women’s Singles semifinals, Wong Hong Yi faced Hsieh Yu-chieh of Chinese Taipei. The more experienced Hsieh ultimately prevailed with an 11-3, 11-7 victory to advance to the final. In the other semifinal, the Netherlands’ Roos van Reek defeated top seed Long Yufei 12-10, 11-4.
In Women’s Doubles, an all-Hong Kong clash took place in the Round of 16, with Tang Nok Yiu and Wong Hong Yi eliminating Man Kwan Wun and Lam Ying Suet. However, they were later defeated in the quarterfinals by the pair from the Netherlands and Chinese Taipei.
On Sunday’s finals day, gold and bronze medal matches will be held in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Wong Hong Kit will first compete in the Men’s Doubles semifinals in the morning, followed by the Men’s Singles final in the afternoon, and either the Men’s Doubles final or bronze medal match later. Wong Hong Yi will play in the Women’s Singles bronze medal match in the afternoon.
