PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025 Tournament Update Hong Kong Players Shine on Home Court Wong Hong Kit and Wong Hong Yi Advance to Singles Semifinals
(Hong Kong, 22 August, 2025) The second day of the “PPA Tour Asia Hong Kong Open 2025” got underway today with the competition hosted the Kai Tak Arena, Kai Tak Sports Park from August 21 to 24. Today’s Pro Division Main Draw featured the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Mixed Doubles, with Hong Kong players delivering strong performances on their home court. Siblings Wong Hong Kit and Wong Hong Yi enjoyed victories as both advanced on to the singles semifinals.
In the Men’s Singles, top-seeded Wong Hong Kit started with a smooth 11-7, 11-4 victory over his Chinese opponent in the Round of 16. He continued his dominance in the Quarterfinal against Kim Eunggwon from South Korea—also his men’s doubles partner—with an emphatic 11-0, 11-2 win. Another Hong Kong player, Ryan Lam, swept past wildcard entrant Jack Foster from the United States 11-2, 11-6 in the Round of 16, but was eliminated in the Quarterfinal by Vietnam’s Hien Truong with scores of 11-2, 11-4.
In the Women’s Singles, Wong Hong Yi staged a comeback in the Round of 16 after dropping the first set, eventually defeating her Japanese opponent 10-12, 11-9, 11-7. She then faced a tough challenge in the Quarterfinal against second-seeded Nicola Schoeman from Australia, prevailing 11-9, 7-11, 11-4 in a hard-fought three-set battle. Another all-Hong Kong matchup saw Tang Nok Yiu defeat Venise Chan 11-5, 11-1 in the Round of 16. However, Tang fell short in the Quarterfinal against Hsieh Yu-chieh of Chinese Taipei, losing 11-3, 3-11, 4-11. Lam Ying Suet was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Nicola Schoeman 4-11, 11-4, 11-2.
In the Mixed Doubles, Wong Hong Kit and Wong Hong Yi then teamed up to compete in front of an enthusiastically supportive home crowd. Unfortunately, they lost in the Round of 16 to an Australian-Japanese pair with scores of 9-11, 6-11. Another Hong Kong pair, Ryan Lam and Tang Nok Yiu, also exited in the Round of 16, losing 4-11, 1-11 to a Malaysian-Vietnamese duo.
Wong Hong Kit said: “I’m very happy to compete here in Hong Kong in such a major pickleball event. Seeing so many local spectators and friends here supporting me means a lot. I will continue to give my all to win.”
Wong Hong Yi shared: “My opponents were very experienced. Luckily, my brother was coaching me from the sidelines. I’d like to thank the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association for co-organizing the tournament and supporting my participation. This is a major opportunity to promote pickleball in Hong Kong.”
On Saturday the Pro Division will highlight Wong Hong Kit and Wong Hong Yi as they compete in the Men’s and Women’s Singles semifinals. The Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles events will also begin, with several Hong Kong players aiming for victory, while in the amateur division, the singer Alfred Hui will compete in the Mixed Doubles 35+ (3.5 And Under) category.
